DUAL Talk software dialler
|
 |
 |
|
| If you do not have an H.323 or SIP compliant device, then please try DUAL Phone; our software dialer designed
specifically for making international telephone calls through DUAL Talk.
Alternatively, if you are in the UK, you can make calls through your DUAL Talk account
using an 020 or 0845 access number. There is more information on this feature at My DUAL Talk; the online account
management system. |

General configuration guidelines - H.323
|
 |
 |
|
| This section explains how to access DUAL Talk using an H.323 compliant
device. If you do not yet have a VoIP gateway, please see our recommendations on supported hardware solutions. The
configuration of your dialler depends on whether you have a fixed or dynamic IP address.
Fixed IP address
- Make sure the IP address you use has been added to your DUAL Talk account. If you
did not add this address while setting up your account, then add this IP address at the Access
Methods area of My DUAL Talk;
the online account management system.
- Configure your equipment to send all telephone calls to a gateway.
The gateway IP address is 213.228.232.116. If possible, we
recommend that you use the DNS name gw1.dualtalk.com.
Dynamic IP address
- Make sure that your DUAL Talk account has been configured for dynamic IP
addresses. If you did not do this while setting up your account, then set this
option now at the Access Methods area of My DUAL Talk; the online account management system.
- Configure your equipment to send all telephone calls to a gatekeeper.
The gatekeeper IP address is 213.228.232.116. If possible,
we recommend that you use the DNS name gk1.dualtalk.com.
- Configure your equipment to register at the gatekeeper using an E164 alias (telephone
number) or an H.323 alias. The alias address should be 1822 followed by your DUAL
Talk account number followed by your DUAL Talk password (emailed to you when you set up
your account). For example, if your account number is 200100 and your password is
900100, set the E164 alias to be 1822200100900100.
The codecs we support are G.723.1 and G.729. You should enable both Fast Start
and H.245 tunnelling. You should configure your equipment to send DTMF digits using
UserInputIndication messages through an H.245 tunnel.
We support fax calls to most worldwide destinations. To send faxes, your gateway
must be T.38 compatible. |

General configuration guidelines - SIP
|
 |
 |
|
| We recommend accessing DUAL Talk using the H.323 protocol.
Nevertheless, we support SIP, and this section explains how to access DUAL Talk using a
SIP compliant device.
Methods area of My DUAL Talk;
the online account management system.
- Configure your equipment to send all telephone calls to our SIP server at sip.dualtalk.com.
- It is not necessary to register with our SIP server.
Dynamic IP address
- Make sure that your DUAL Talk account has been configured for dynamic IP
addresses. If you did not do this while setting up your account, then set this
option now at the Access Methods area of My DUAL Talk; the online account management system.
- Configure your equipment to register with our SIP server at sip.dualtalk.com.
Our server supports Digest authentication. You should configure your device
using your DUAL Talk account number and password.
- These instructions assume that you have exclusive use of the public IP address when your
ISP allocate it to you. If your ISP allocate you with a private IP address, then you
need to authenticate on a per-call basis. Please contact us for more information on setting this up for your account.
The codecs we support are G.723.1 and G.729. You should configure your
equipment to send DTMF digits using INFO method SIP messages.
We support fax calls to most worldwide destinations. To send faxes, your gateway
must be T.38 compatible. |

Fax calls through DUAL Talk
|
 |
 |
|
| DUAL Talk is primarily a voice service, but fax calls should be
successful to most destinations. Our primary support for fax uses the T.38 protocol in
conjunction with both H.323 and SIP. T.38 compatible devices include the Quintum
range of second generation gateways, Welltech gateways and Elesign gateways. For
devices that do not support T.38, fax calls can be made using a G.711 codec. By
default, G.711 is disabled on accounts, but we can enable this feature for fax use only.
More information on sending faxes through DUAL Talk is available in this technical document. |
|
|
| We offer a simple test facility on our servers that you are welcome to
call for testing. This should work, even if you do not have a DUAL Talk account.
To call it, configure your software or hardware dialler to send calls to DUAL Talk,
and then dial 123. You should hear a test announcement. If
you hear this, then your equipment is set up correctly and you should be able to use DUAL
Talk, once you have established an account. |
|
|
| Audio quality on the Internet based DUAL Talk network is equal to the
quality on standard fixed telephone lines. You will enjoy the highest voice quality
and the lowest delays if you use an IP phone such as the Cisco ATA 186 or the Elesign
ESC1710. If you plan to make calls through DUAL Talk using a software dialler on your
computer, we offer the following advice:
- Use a headset.
- USB headsets often offer higher quality than sound card headsets, but are a little more
expensive.
- Do not use desktop speakers for listening to the call. Although
the quality may sound fine to you, the people you call will hear a disturbing echo.

Advanced authentication options
|
 |
 |
|
| We are also able to authenticate your calls by technical prefix or
calling alias. This can be useful if you need to send us calls for multiple DUAL
Talk accounts from the same IP address. If you need to use more than one account at the
same IP address, then you should use our SIP Proxy Authentiction feature.
Please contact us for more information on
any of these options. |
